It started to do that when it introduced the leveling system. At least it's not a completely skill-less MMO in which the winner is determined by how long they've played the game rather than how good they are.

bf2 was just perfect for me, modern weapons, online play, easy to pick up and enjoy. but so far in 2142 i dont like the way anything feels. dynamic lighting and shadows will lower your fps quite a bit. antialiasing and texture filtering will also. turn AA and filtering off and see if that helps your frames.

what frame rate can your card sustain with all settings at low(except geometry and view distance maxed) at 1024x768?

eww... mouse buttons for movement? I find the standard BF2 key setup to be pretty good except for parachute being 9. With any mouse I can recall ever using, setting middle mouse to walk forward would make it difficult to move and shoot at the same time for me.
