start to think it over. delete your config and try it new

to approch every new game start to delete the given keybindings and think over which of them you really need.
you will see in the game what you need when its missing or not working


most of the time you will fall back on settings you use in other games priviously.
as i startet my cfgs to configurate with dukenukem3d mouse use (and earlyer with doom - kweyboard only) there are some reasons for my cfg.

the normal user use aswd. not bad, but it wasnt good for me.
i startet
rightmouse backward
middle foreward.

normaly its better to seperate movementkey into a keyboard/mouse splitt.
you normaly are not able to do everything with just one hand
forward/jump/shoot/left all at the same time.

so i finally came to use backwards on space and forward on the right button. the reason there fore where the strafejumps in quake2. i just were able to strafejumpe to the right but not to the left with my old cfg.
in some case it where a probleme. and when you are playing q3 1on1 rocketarena competionladder (gxp->esl->espl / q2battle/q2 rocketarena/q3ctf/q3rocketarena/q3 RA 1on1/finaly cs) it gets to a serious problem.
so i had to think it over changed it and learned to life with it. finally happy about the change.

i stopped playing in leagues because of you will never ever stop cheating.

trying to beat them with skill is NOT possible.


back to buisness.
so split those actions that normaly used together at the same time on both hands and you will be able to handle them.


just an example to get on to that thoughts:
who the hell needs reload.
normaly you reload after a fight.
two options:
1. your dead (you dont have to reload)
2. the enemy is dead (you got plenty of time to get into a corner sit down look at you keyboard and search the reload button)

ok there may be a 3. option, you have to deal with some more enemys.
again two options:
1. switch to pistole
2. retreat to a safe area. (may give you the time to look on the keyboard or just backup)

so what i will say is, its more important to find the pistol, grenade, what ever than reload. or you just can simply jump around while reloading.



your are normaly famliar with some ground settings.
main will be for sure fire one the left mousbutton.
in case you find your self dead in always the same situation, not able to grab your gun or just being disabled in movements than normaly its a problem of your keybindings. if you dont want to go on dying like this you have to think it over and improve it by changing.

bf2 has by far the worst keybingconfig i every seen. but anyway you can manage it.

if there are some questions howto change things, just ask me i will help you to improve.

normaly you will start to change the keysettings in the ingame cfgmanager.
its so bad, you are not able to change everything like the mouswheel
i bet most of you havent changed it jet.
its not easy but possible.

if are willed to realy go there you have to use the notepad or any other editor.
some things are important.
dont change or switch lines, bf2 just needs the order or it reject them as if they werent there.

start to make your cfg write protected, make backup copy of Controls.con. thats the file we are talking about.

by loggin out and again in into your bf2 ingame profile bf2 will read this file new. so its not nesessary to quit bf2 anytime after changing and check the changes.

eww... mouse buttons for movement? I find the standard BF2 key setup to be pretty good except for parachute being 9. With any mouse I can recall ever using, setting middle mouse to walk forward would make it difficult to move and shoot at the same time for me.

ive never had a situation where i couldnt do something in bf2 due to buttons. they have never made me feel like they r holding me back.

I think I don't use one single default keyboard key. :D

E.g. I use the directional keys for walking and I'm very accustomed to my plenty mousebuttons because I use the Logitech MX1000.
I can use the following features with the mouse (most features a binded to a keyboard key too, just to be safe):
Primary Fire, secondary Fire (zoom), enter/exit vehicles, go prone, sprint, push-to-talk, slot 3 (primary gun), slot 2 (pistol), slot 5 (C4,medkit,ammo), slot 6 (defri, wrench), next external view, reset view (to 1st person).

you're crazy! Anyway, nice timi, but why? I must admit I'm using almost the exact default keybindings and I'm pretty satisfied, got used to it.....

i dont see the default keys as needing to be gotten use to. I dont want the hand that aims at peoples faces to be clicking to get into a jeep or to make me run. my right hand is all about head shots :)

this sort of talk wouldnt last in a CS forum :)

thats it if you are used to it its fine. i got used to have movements on the mouse. but i change it. its just a call to think things over. if you got a problem with the paracute you should think it over. maybe you find a better key for it, even in replacing one other option.

Yep. X or a mouse button works nicely. Also, that terrible N key for resizing the radar is a good candidate for remapping. It used to be fine but then they really screwed up the radar. Now it auto-zooms so much I find myself needing to adjust it a lot, so I bound it to a mouse button.
