Global-Conflict Olympics - Inter-campaign event. Winners!

Post by WoodenPlank »

With the official end of Campaign 1, it's time for the return of the GC Olympics! This coming Saturday (28 January), at normal GC battle time, GC will host some special events. These events are open to ALL GC players, and will be hosted on one of our unranked servers.

The Events

Jeep Racing - One-person event

Players will compete in a 1v1 buggy race, around the hills and buildings of beautiful Kharg Island. This will be a ladder-style event (think single elimination play-off bracket), with the winner of each heat progressing to the next round, until the ultimate buggy racing champion has been found.

Battle Buggies - 2/3-person event

Some of you have been waiting for this, and it's back - BATTLERACING. Two or three people per team, one buggy. There will be a 60 second pre-race prep period to prepare your buggy, then the race begins. 2 buggies per heat, last buggy standing or first across the finish line wins. Javelin and RPG use is prohibited in this event, and participants may not exit their buggy during the race. All other weapons (both on buggy and hand held/thrown) are permitted. This is a bring your own team event.

Both buggy events will use the same course around and through Kharg Island. The finish line will be a belt of anti-tank mines... You MUST strike a mine (and destroy yourself and/or buggy) to successfully cross the finish line. No matter what, every race WILL end with a bang.

Racing route(note: map is 32P version, actual race will be on 64P version):

Image

Start line is near the RU base(vertical green line). Players will follow the green line past warehouse, between construction site and offices, then looping up through the hills, and back through the oil depot. After crossing the start line, racers then follow the red route through the warehouse area a second time, the office area, and off road through the hills near gas station. You will note there is a small detour through the hills near the gas station. The detour is shorter, but also has several large rocks that racers can potentially get hung up on. After passing the gas station, it's a sprint to the finish line (red line) near the US base. I timed the route during testing at approximately 2 minutes from start to finish. The route will be demonstrated on race day, just to avoid any confusion. Note that there are multiple obstacles along the race track, such as paper pallets, vehicles, and exploding fuel trailers that must be avoided.

Grand Knife Melee
An open field, a lot of GCers, and nothing but knives. Last man (woman?) standing is the winner. Event will take place in the open fields of Caspian Border.

One on One knife duels

Two men enter, one man leaves. Fights take place in the pit near B flag on Strike at Karkand. Single elimination tournament.

NEW EVENT - Tank Battle

How about EOD bot racing? They are a bitch to control and it might be funny to see about 30 of them running down the street and through/around/over obstacles.

Agreed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If we get a chance, I want to do a little testing on this tomorrow. Assuming there are no major issues with racing the EOD bots, I will add it to the event schedule.

What are some thoughts on it? Should it be 1v1 races? 4-way? All competitors race at once? Some of it will depend on numbers, of course.

Yes, you must provide your own 3-man team. Find two friends that wanna do the team race with you.

Maybe add a little spice to the battle racing? Each team can choose a chopper pilot (pilot only) to have an attack chopper 'escort'?

Attack chopper would be too strong, maybe a transport choper that can be used to block the road or ram the other jep

Two events:

EOD Bot Cross aka EOD-X...like X-Games Boarder Cross and SkierX
4 racer heats, top 2 finishers advance to the next heat. Continue elimination through quarter finals, semi finals, and finals.

EOD Bot Cannonball Run
As many racers as possible. Race from point A to B or large loop. Anything goes. First across finish line wins.

Honestly, it's better to keep the events simple. Adding anything else to the battle racing will just push it overboard, and make it that much more difficult to keep under control.

Death railing really doesnt have a competitive aspect to it, so that's out.

Maybe after C2 we can have a sniper competition or something. For now, though, I want to keep things a little simpler.

Adding 1v1 knife fights, and will post details on EOD bot racing once I have had a chance to test it out a bit.

Sup and Zerdius, you both need to find 2 team-mates for the battle buggy event.
