Protest

Post by Kismet »

Okay, I wasn't there for BF2 or BF3 launch, I showed up to BF3 in late December, and the game seemed pretty decently stable and the servers didn't crash almost ever.

This game release is the worst I've ever seen, which is maybe because I don't buy that many games, but still - I've had decent (actually better) graphics performance in BF4 release vs the Beta, but way worse server crashes and game crashes than during the Beta, and a whole new bunch of bugs (sound cutting out, excessive rubber-banding on low pings, no lock-on warnings in helis/aircraft, knife glitches, a whole weird managerie more). I consider this game release a massive slap in the face, and a knowing malfeasance (aka piece of bullshit assholery) of EA/DICE, and I just can't sit here and take it.

Just this evening I contacted EA/Dice through their 'Call Me' support, and asked and received a refund for both BF4 and BF4 Premium. I won't even consider buying it again until these major bugs are fixed, which I suspect might take a month or more.

I realize many of you are willing to put up with this nonsense, but I would encourage you to protest with me. Even if we only revoke our potentially beloved game for a week or two, because this kind of craptastic development needs to stop, and we need to demand better from those we give SO MUCH MONEY. Do you realize, in just a single 32-vs-32 match, the total revenues for EA/Dice are 64*$60 = 3840? Add to that the monthly cost of the server, and you've got a crap ton of money, and when you deliver a bug-filled unstable game, who cares?

If we all rescinded our purchases within a short timeframe, we could make a real impact, especially if we convince others to do the same.

I have little faith this will happen, but are you really so docile and accepting that you won't stand up against obvious mistreatment?

EDIT: I'd also point out, there have already been 2 patches at least (maybe 4, including server-side). How are they this inept? Cause they don't hire good people, or maybe they are cheapskates about hiring?

Boycotts never work and make you look silly.
Yes, DICE should of taken the time to fix any issues BF4 had, but no need to get angry.
DICE said they're working on the crashing issues. In the mean time, play a different game or go outside.

Oh yeah, DICE/EA make their profits from sales, not servers running matches.
That's the cost of running a server, going to GSPs, not EA.

If their sales never suffer from their awful programming, how do you expect they will ever stop abusing you? Or do you have some idea that it's impossible for them to sell a product that isn't severely flawed?

Yeah, I've been hearing that performance is a real issue and rumors that as many as half the players in any given game can disconnect prematurely due to crashes.

-client side crashing
-memory leaks
-server side crashing

among other things.

First of all Boycotts do work.

But BF3 launch was similar, with tons of client crashes.
They have QA team right? Id fire them all.

Back in the no-internet days games came out near perfect. Today game development continues after release (known as "day 1 patch").
Unless theres a significant money impact its not going to stop. Itll only get worse.

Are you sure? Arent we the QA team?
If they do have one, i think they mostly dont hear to it or they "dont have the time" to fix it. This is something i read from someone who was a Beta tester on a third party QA for BC2, that they report several bugs more than 6months prior to release and they were still on the game.

What i find curious is not the bugs/glitches, its the crashes (mostly on 64p servers). AND that the campaign also crashes (sad).

Looks like they are on top of everything that has been mentioned here and they are trying to get things done.

This. Also this is only happening with PC, so it's really just how the servers are handling it that's the problem. BTW Fields very nice sig.

Why is everyone hating so bad. If you don't like it don't play it. I think as long as they fix the problems we are golden!

Usually, this would be my standpoint as well, but the BF4 launch have been/is terrible. A lot of us have spent a considerable amount of money, not only in purchasing the game, but also upgrading PC's to be able to play the game.
Having EA/DICE launching the game with a back-end infrastructure that can't deliver a stable environment with up to 50% crash ratio - that's not "golden" - that's one big rip-off.
The game might be great and fun, but the state of it, all the malfunctioning parts, that is bad.

I think this made a pretty big impact on EA/Dice, considering they are a pretty big Battlefield community.
