New patch incoming later this month

Post by Fields »

That isn't saying much, and frankly I think it's well overdue, but it's been confirmed that we'll be getting a patch late JAN. http://www.reddit.com/r/battlefield_4/c ... f_patches/

Let's all cross our fingers for a commander mode fix...

from Alen Kertz tweets
Buff Attack Heli gunner direct damage
Buff Attack heli rocket Rate of fire
Nerf scount heli splash damage
Buff scout heli direct damage (highlight anti-vehicle role) 8O
Reduce MAA missles from 6 to 4
Buff Zuni rocket direct damage
Buff (zuni) rocket splash radius

Rebalance. DMR. V40. RGO. FB. Hand Flares.
V40 mini grenade damange and splash radius will most likely be reduced.

imo most of the balancing isn't going to be worth it anyways, we'll get typical DICE balancing where they overnerf the things that needed a slight tweak and overbuff things that are fine. Like the zuni rockets, why do they need any change at all? The only thing I see benefiting from a zuni change is the MAA, which doesn't exactly need any help.

I just hope we get to see mantle (and hopefully it works), some of the netcode gets better, they fix commander in unranked servers, and the game gets some sort of optimization so it doesn't run like crap.

@TheNixNick - yes of course.
But this news piece does't actually tell us anything new. We already knew there will be a patch delivered at unknown time. All this piece of news does is set the time frame till the end of the month.
So just to add some info into this useless announcement i summed up what they are looking at.
In december we had 2 patches in two weeks. Since december 20 to end of january one patch? I really hope its gonna :!: fix everything from badcode to the floating laser points....
But for some reason i feel part of the patch will be hotfixes/cover-up for broken core mechanics, part of the fixes will have to be rolled.back, part of it will introduce new game breaking bugs, and some will be fixed, until they resurface later, possibly in a different form.

I don't know why to buff zuni's, it seems perfect. Strong to give a fighting chance againt the MBT, but not strong enough to guarantee the upper hand. Has very good damage and splash radius against infantry.
I really don't understand why hes not satisfied with them. Possibly cus the noobs don't know how to use them and statisticaly the weapon does't have enough kills... i donno....

I think the goal is to make attack helis better but I agree that is going to make the rocket pods on the maa devastating probably and unintended side effect.

My fear is the history of the BF franchise. Each patch is a wrapper on top of the game. With every real patch creates an additional layer of lag because they really aren't fixing it at the root level. They add scripts on top of the existing laggy scripts. Yay! additional scripts! Ohhh, what lag?!?!

I am really not that much upset about balancing issues right now.
It would be nice to have some, yes, but the real issue lies in the gun play performance (or 'netcode').

Things like getting inst-killed by low fire rate guns, unloading half a magazine in close range in someone's face who still manages to turn around and kill you, are my real issues with the game.
These things are just very frustrating, while game mechanic balance issues are mere annoying and can be played 'around'.

Credit where credit is due. I must say the changes suggested on his twitter I don't have anything against at all. Where it fails is that it doesn't touch on any proper big issues, but at least there's nothing in those changes that would outright make something utterly retarded, which is the standard for Dice.

Not that I in any way expect the resulting patch to not contain changes that break stuff.
