'Netcode' fixed

Post by LongBowNL »

It seems that they updated the way the netcode works. I am now going to try out to see differences.
We've started rolling out a new Battlefield 4 update for PC. A short period of downtime is expected with this update.

All update details below.

- Fix to reduce object damage mismatch between client/server.
- Fix explosion packs not being able to be shot sometimes
- Improvements for client side packet loss
- Client crash fixes
- AMD Mantle multi-GPU improvements
- Carrier Assault game mode reports bug fix
- High Frequency Network update
- Added High frequency “bubble” updating player movement, stance, rotation, damage and projectiles at a separate rate on foot and in vehicles
-Added option to control client side update rate setting

yeah, netcode chances are not overwhelming but the placebo effect from it is quite nice :D

edit: I am in the CTE and while most people reported a huge improvement at first, more and more people figure out that the chances do not seem that impressive. I would still say, however, that there is indeed a slight overall improvement.

I have less instant deaths. I feel you can hear the individual hits now.

I played a bit on CTE and I gotta say I noticed a big difference too! Less dying behind corners and more time to react after being hit. Which is why I'm pretty excited that they are finally introducing it to the main game. Hopefully the servers don't buckle up because of it.

I'm sure this will fix most of the cross-corner kills and instant deaths, but the fact that it's simply a certain radius around the player that gets a higher rate is really just another mask-fix to add to their already millions of mask-fixes in the game. Who's to say a sniper still can't corner kill you now...
Definitely feels better though, shame we ended the campaign before playing a battleday with the patch

I feel they should scrub their next game or 3, and save that money for one finished game
out there, already out and launched or in the making.

for all the old hard core legend games that getting the cable plug out soon.

I played quite a lot on the CTE.

Now the thing is:

The "netcode" bubble in the vanilla client got reduced from 200mts around you to 100mts around you on foot.
Also the server NEEDS to get restarded often because the longer you keep it going, the worse it gets.

This is probably the weirdest way they could have implemented the change. :silent:

So... I tested it for about 1 hour or so on a server with almost the exact same ping as I had on the CTE servers (around 200ms) and yeah, it feels way better (it's probably gonna produce a more shocking impression for those who didn't play on the CTE) but, IMO, it's not the same as to how it played on the CTE servers.

Hit reg got vastly improved at pretty much any range (except for long range sniping) but I still feel CTE servers have better response times regarding everything, and better performance.
EA servers are also probably better, so that might be a factor.

Remember that you have to go into your settings to activate the change - in gameplay. I noticed quite a difference. The whole game feels snappier! :)

I heard somewhere that time to kill decreased, and it definitely felt like it did. Game seemed more responsive too.
