behold the theorycrafting via not having any ability to pilot or fight the ships:

per descriptions, the 325a is a fighter. You're not going to be able to do too much with it outside of combat, although the chassis has multiple other versions that fill different roles (315 is an exploration variant, 350 isn't available anymore IIRC but is built for racing/speed). The 325a has extra weapons hardpoints vs the other variants.

the avenger has similar weapons output (enough to possibly match 325a in firepower depending on what weapons actually end up doing), but is a less maneuverable craft due to it having 4 less maneuver thrusters. It also has less upgrade space than the 325a, but you get a stock cargo area and the ability to hold 2 tons more cargo. Otherwise per the ship specs compare they are very similar.

At this point (speculation), the avenger will probably be able to fill more rolls stock than the 325a as the 325a is fairly specialized already. but joker is right, just pick whichever one you think is cooler at this point. We can't even fly anything yet much less pretend to know what the rpg elements of the game will be at this time, so trying to decide on something while not having a roll that you want to play in mind is basically just about aesthetics. If you want to pick a roll though, the 325a is a fighter through and through, while the avenger will probably allow you more headroom in doing other things.

I was curious who "The Convoy" was and based on what I found it seems to be an unofficial alliance of cargo haulers and cargo escorts which is both awesome and hilarious.

Have we got confirmation on the number of players allowed in each server instance? These fleets are gigantic, but it doesn't mean much if you can only fit a few dozen in any given star system.
I don't remember reading anything official, but I don't believe for an instant we're gonna see EvE-esque 2000+ player fights, especially with a game that you are actually piloting your ship instead of just stopping/setting orbit, targeting, and hitting F1-F8.

I remember reading in a player-based thread 15 I think for what it's worth, but there was no sourcing to that and I can't claim it to be fact. I'll see if I can dig it up.

Edit: Here's what Chris Roberts wants to accomplish with instancing, no numbers are given.
This guy says 30-40 but I can't find a source so it's speculative, although the event will definitely be trying the limits of the instancing system and the engine if done in full.

We just have to wait for them to break the law in some way or another, and then we can get away with it... or we could just do it anyway.

Considering one costs $1200 or something, it'll be tough.

We're going to end up planning a heist for months.. This is basically like trying to steal a tank from a military base.

I have just read up about this game. I can barely hold back my excitement! I loved playing "Spore" but this game just makes me want to own it and play it now :D Also with regards to stealing ships, if your ship is stolen you would get another one right? I think i'd flip if someone jumped in and stole something I had payed $140 for.. Also what kind of faction are we going to be? I need ANSWERS !

Well, Tea, stolen is stolen... You can (should) have insurance, though. Did your ship come with a LTI? (life time insurance)
Not sure you still get them.

Stealing is one thing...getting your ship shot down would worry me more

edit: assurance/=insurance.

I think you mean insurance. Anyway, LTI is a nice perk (you don't have to pay for insurance) however normal insurance policies are meant to be comparably cheap. If you have insurance you will be covered for theft/getting shot down with a ship of equal condition (not including any upgrades you have installed).

I feel like we are playing one of those awesome scams you see in EVE. it makes it even sweeter that its against the Goons. I dont care if its legal or not, if we have an opportunity we should go for it

1) assuming insurance works like in real life, if your ship was stolen I would assume insurance would take care of it. If people lost entirely something they payed that much real money for there would be outrage. Also I doubt you'd be able to steal a single seat ship via docking collar, especially something like a hornet that basically only has a cockpit. Unless you leave your ship idle in space in a PvP instance you'll probably (note probably, not enough game mechanics announced yet to know for sure past speculation) never have it stolen.

2) we're looking at pretty much a bit of everything for the GC fleet right now. Piracy/fighting/trading/exploring/mining/the whole group of anything that will be possible in game.

LTI ended on november 26 for everyone, including original backers. Any ship anyone bought after that date will have to have payed insurance.

As to stealing an idris, I'm game. I think seraphim and myself both have cutlasses, which have docking collars, and I would be really surprised if people with constellations couldn't mount a docking collar as well. I'm game for a raid :P That said with the instancing I don't know if we'd be able to control PvP instances enough to ever actually control seeing an Idris. The game isn't a full sandbox like EvE - it's not like we'll be able to just sneak up on a random one in space and hotwire it and run from the cops.

I assume this would be in-game currency and insurance, I wouldn't like to have to go lock myself in my bathroom and cry every time someone yelled "Yarrgh, avast matey!" and derped me of my ships. And yeah they might not steal mine, but surely losing any ship would still be painful :(

Also, I looked around my ship in the hangar yesterday - BLEW my mind. I just want to dogfight, heck I'll probably never download the real game once that arena comes out
