POE2 new version 1.7 upgrade.

Post by BRUMMIE »

July 28th is the date =GC= will switch over to POE 1.7 (new version).
Before July 28th any POE battles will be played with PoE2 1.1.5 (current version).

The 1.7 client release is Friday July 20th, 5pm GMT. =GC= will have the client file available as soon after that time as possible. Everyone will have a week to download this new version. If anyone needs help, as always they may post in Help Forum or look for knowledgeable persons on TS.

 I want my new POE now!
  • For people who want to play POE before the 28th they can go to C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods (typical) and copy their poe2 folder to the same ...~mods folder location.
For XP users this will produce a Copy of poe2 folder so rename this to poe2_=GC= and then install the new POE2.
IF a =GC= POE battle occurs before the 28th simply rename the poe2 folder to poe2_new and then rename poe2_=GC= to poe2.
Then after the battle day (main or BO) is done rename poe2 back to poe2_=GC= and rename poe2_new to poe2.
 I'll wait to play the new POE until =GC= plays it.
  • For people who will only be playing POE at =GC= they can just install the new POE2 after the 24th/25th BO battles. A cautious conversion would mean waiting until the 27th to change so general feedback shows the new version is =GC= playable.
Thanks for the road map Titi (aka cantpicknameiwant)

just to point out, you can go in through the community thing in bf2 or the new poe and switch to your poe_GC folder if you have already installed the new poe. it will bring up the old poe just like a mod through that menu

Good post matsif.

A "backup" still needs to be created to play both versions.
Rename the 1.1.5 version to some (any) name other than poe2.
Install the new version.
Then when you load BF2 in any mod go to community -> custom game you will see both folder names and the version of POE2 each contains. Activate either version.

This should also mean a second shortcut pointing to the othernamed POE2 can be placed on desktop.

Either way it means a person does not have to keep renaming folders to fit the name poe2 in the current single shortcut.

Why the switch? Are we gonna play the new maps? They are buggy as hell.

We will not be using any of the new maps so that should make it less of an issue. Well hopefully :).
