If you have another mic give it a try just to rule it out. It may be more of an internal hardware problem. This could be especially bad if your audio is integrated on the motherboard. You could also try reloading your audio drivers. That's as far as I would suggest until you rule out the mic or audi...

Fraps works great with the dual core, and a 10,000 rpm SATA HDD. I use ULead as well, but was looking at Adome Premier. I know Bernout uses Premiere Elements and is very happy with it (at a much lower cost).
