Origin put out an tweet the other night saying there was going to be a BIIIIG announcement soon.
If you have any games in your Steam "inventory", select it and click "View In Store" it will load you to a (nonfucntional) store.origin.steampowered.com/appid/ page. At least it did last night!
Seems a weird change for Steam to make there, possibly hinting towards a partnership of some kind!

I never really disliked Origin. Sure it has limited amount of games and what not but seemed to be a pretty functional and non-intrusive way (no pop-up ads and such) to manage your games.
Regardless of, will be exciting to see what's in store next!

This could either go horribly horribly wrong, or it might be slightly decent. Not worth the risk imho

Perhaps they are just doing with Ubisoft. EA will start selling new games on Steam but when you launch it takes you to Origin and you d/l from there.
