me and hardware, need some advise

Post by Stonie »

Somehow, my hardware doesnot seems to like me.

After replacement of powersupply, harddrive and cooling vans. (about 6 weeks ago)
1. get a message at startup that my graphic card doesnot have enough power!I check the cable's everything seems to be in order....let see what happens if I ignore it.....
Still playing eve (which dont require much)... I am happy

Then after a few days
2. At startup, in bios screen I get the message that no drive is found!I am stamping my feet, got my weed, rolled a joint, got an hammer.....
Just as I re enter the room I saw windows on my screen. Turns out also a problem I can ignore.... I can play, I am happy

After playing around, clueless ignoring all problems for a few weeks,
last weekend happend worsecase senario.
3. PC startup but does not startup windows and is stuck in the bios screen.

PRO TIP:
Always give a present that you can use yourself to your girlfriend
I did that and gave her a nice laptop for christmas.
Which ofcourse I confiscated for personal gain..... I know EVE makes one an evil person.
So I am still playing but am not so happy anymore.

Also I am don trying to fix the problem and gonna go for a compleet new system.
But I have no clue what will fit together.

I would like some suggestions from you guys.
Budget is between 600-800 euro.

Thanks in advance

don't call me an expert or quote me on this, but mobo? seems like you've replaced everything else that might be being problematic. keep your old stuff and try a new motherboard
woke up this morning, put on my slippers, walked in the kitchen and died

I know you're looking for a new system, but I'm curious: what's your video card, what was your old power supply and what's your new power supply?

..

Are there any good sites to order parts from in Europe? Something like Newegg, but for the EU? (or does the Newegg ship to there.. without crossing the ocean?)

Mobo: http://geizhals.at/eu/a306192.html
ASUS Rampage Formula X48 chipset

CPU: http://geizhals.at/eu/a374026.html
Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 E0 stepping

RAM: http://geizhals.at/eu/a350942.html
Corsair XMS2 Dominator DIMM Kit 4GB PC2-8500U CL5-5-5-15

GPU: http://geizhals.at/eu/a419678.html
Zotac GeForce GTX 275 AMP! Edition

This would be around 650 EUR but then again you also need PC case, power supply, dvdrw and some hard disk. Maybe You could use those from your old machine ?
All in all this is pretty decent setup and also gives you a lot of OC possibility.

Also i would again recheck if all cables are correctly connected and not loosen [reconnect] and clear bios cmos.
But like porno Sup said... post your spec and we'll work from there.

I've never heard of Zotac, but I've been eyeing to replace my 7950 with an Asus 275. I have little faith in ATI drivers (again) or I would go ATI.

Basically I agree with these goodies. Always plan to spend an extra $100 anyways when putting a system together.

Yea Zotac was launched last year and its good firm especialy price wise. EVGA is still the best with their RMA department and other stuff but Zotac is close behind.
Maybe Stonie could get a cheaper mobo but I like to build PCs on good base and Asus is surely up to the task.
Ramboon bought similar PC few month ago and he took Gigabyte mobo and had a lot of problems with ram compability.

I'd suggest same as Sup - give Specs and Brands/Names from existing HW...

Especially the Power Supply Data cuz that's most important: Graphicscard not enough power...HDD not found...

Stoni we can have an expert talk on TS, as we haven't talked a while...

Zotac275Amp! Real Good Value for money

Asus Mobo with X48 - Overkill if you're not OCing - better get a Intel45 chipset (Gigabyte EP45-UD3P)

E8500 - get E8400 E0 cheaper and SpeedDifference isn't remarkable

Corsair - Dominator Overkill - expensive get 2x "normal" Corsair XMS2 Twin2X5096-6400C5 (DHX) which are 2x2048MB Kits

Get a Brand Power Supply with DC-DC and 80Plus Certification - around €120 you should calculate for that...

@Pink Ass

Problems with Rams you also can have with Asus...i know about that cuz i do have 2 Asus Boards - one is running the system on which i write here...also both Asus and Gigabyte do have compatibilty Lists...

the Problem with Asus is they do have sooo many features a non OCing doesn't need but gets confused with and default settings aren't good...

and Asus has been doing a lot of crappy Biosses the last times where ppl updated and got stuck...if there weren't all those helpful ppl in the forums Asus Support would suck...

Nvidia GTX 9800
old power was 800
new one 850

I guess I could salvage the case, power supply and HD,
But I am bit superstitious. And I feel this set has bad karma.
And as a true pot smoking tree huging hippy : I need to get rid of the bad karma :P

And since I never want that powersupply problem again....
what powersupply goes with that set Pink?

Tagan Super Rock 680W (TG680-u33II) ~€90

be quiet Dark Power Pro 750W ~€135

Coolermaster UCP 700W ~€110

above €150

Seasonic M12D 850W

Corsair HX1000W

Like gomimin said brand is very important when buying power supply.
I would go for Enermax, something like:

http://geizhals.at/eu/a312983.html

http://geizhals.at/eu/a244722.html

http://geizhals.at/eu/a235829.html

But if You buy something like Tagan, PC power&cooling, Thermaltake etc will also be good.
Some OCZ psus also aren't bad and are very affordable [made by PC power&cooling which OCZ bought]

The setup I made should run OC-ed around 2x 4ghz 24/7 without any problems. If you dont plan to OC and run at stock speeds or just a little OC then you can always go even cheaper.

calculate another €80 + for cooling

btw. Don't buy SuperFlower or Power - they're not bad for their price - but not for a gaming rig...

Not realy tbh.

Decent cooler will cost you around 30 EUR.
Scythe Mugen, Scythe Ninja, Thermalright Ultra 120 extreme etc will all let you go to 4ghz and over...on acceptable temperatures that is.
The downside of Thermalright coolers is that you have to buy a separate fan which is not that much downside considering you can pick and decide what kind of fan you like (loundness / rpm /air flow etc).

Stock cooler is fine in most cases to go around 3.6-3.8ghz imo.
