Graphic Issues

Post by Chefcook »

Hey,

I have since this weeks problems with my graphic card.

First of all, my Fan on the powercolor radeon 9800 Pro spinned a little bit slow from time to time. I tried to use my warranty but there are some problems right now, but it is pending.
Yesterday while i played bf2 for over an hour some textures went black and after a few sec/mins even more went black. Then a crash to desktop (while i tried to enter the menu to shut it down myself). Dont remember the error message, but it was something with an .dll
I checked imidiatly the fan and temperature of my card (with my hand) and it was at "normal".

So here is my question:
First: What can i do about it?
Second: Are there any tools to test the card for mistakes or just let the fan spin at top speed everytime (even if it is loud... doesnt matter).
I downloaded Sisoft sandra, but the results couldnt help me at all....

You cn try replacing it with an artcic cooler, e.g. http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/ ... oling.html

I used to use one of these and it helped me clock it up even more.

Well, I dont know what causes your trouble but I can recommend this tool for testing your ati's temps and fan-speeds:

hxxp://www.techpowerup.com/atitool/

Nice tool which allows you to manually set fan-speeds, e.g. 100% when GPU reaches 60 °C. In addition you can do overclocking and stuff. Give it a go.

Regards,
Wally

Thank you for the advice.

Right now i am comparing prizes for an exchange fan but FIRST i have to be sure my card isnt broke!

I downloaded the atitool and it seems that i cant adjust the fanspeed (because I see no option)....

So i am still confused.

I have no info on the temp of my card or the speed of the fan.
this is really weird

Launch ATItool, click "settings" on the bottom right, then select "Fan Control" in the top bar. If nothing is available there, Leroy maybe right.

As Leroy said only the 9800XT models have the abilty to adjust fan speed and read temps. I wrecked my 9800pro by running it with the cooler not beeing connected and it appears dead. Soo i have a working Arctic Silencer suitable for 9800 Cards with 128mb to sell and the stock cooler also ;-)
just call me phil on ts, ingame, wherever. i'll even respond to phil in real life. wooohooo!

yep.... he's right...

how does this Ati-tool test work? does it gives clues if the card is down or not??? or just for overclocking issues?

Edit:

Maybe we could get in contact phil? i think about your offer..

You can use the 3D view to scan for artifacts which occour when somethings not right or your card is simply getting to hot. It also shows the temperature graph development of the GPU when going into 3D applications.

You wills see errors in the 3d view as some kind of glitches, color changes, just as you would ingame. So maybe you should try the "scan for artifacts" button.

No Temperatures for his Card. The Scan for Artifacts uses the card to it's limits and will break it if the cooling doesn't work well.

Except the 9800 (and 9800pro) won't show a temperature chart as it does not have a sensor... But you can runthe artifact test to see if it is leaving pixels/breaks.
