I'm sure by now you have all seen or heard about the mass kicks in ET (80332,70476), BF2 (50096,50100) and maybe a few in BF2142 (50093), these are being triggered by a cheat site sending a string usually through IRC, TS, Ventrilo, Xfire, etc.
For the time being, if you are playing try not to be on a public IRC, password your teamspeaks / ventrilos to stop these kids from spamming. Please do not post these strings in the forums.
These violations are all valid they are just getting triggered incorrectly. However we have lifted all the violations listed above from yesterday and will no longer be banning them until we are positive no innocent player will be banned.
Plus I've been hearing about players getting their Alias hijacked, 16million+ points added, then EA wipes their stats. And no response from EA's ticket system to get their legit stats back.
Stuff like this will finally kill BF2 if it keeps up. Heres more discussion on PBBans.
last night some of us in our clan was having a late night game until about 2am-ish.
then a guy comes in called "shootmyrank" he was in chat just going your clan members are guna get reset ands tuff like "f you " etc etc u get the idea on the stuff he was saying.
Next minute an admin banned him, the server crashed, he came back on and all our clan reported that wen they took a flag they went up 3 ranks.
looking at there stats today 5 of our clan members have 16,777,116 points and have appeared on ea leaderboards... this is not good.
what can we do about this hacker?
he also flooded our rcon ports on our other server (which r both streamed to ppbans) and disconnected it from the hosting company and took ages to restart.
now our clan keeps being attcked (DDOS yesterday) i own the hosting compnay we are hoste don and ddos sucks real bad because it affects all my customers but anyways...
part of EA's response:
Hello Symon,
Thank you for contacting us.
subject: wakeislandwarriors.com players hacked x 4.
It is always distressing to hear that a player may have had their account illegally accessed and the account damaged. Unfortunately, there is very little we can do and very little assistance we can offer with Battlefield 2 soldier accounts. Battlefield 2 Soldier accounts are at their core “Free” IGN/Gamespy game accounts. These accounts are free for users and are used to track your stats and scores. However, because these accounts are controlled by IGN/Gamespy, Electronic Arts does not have direct access to them. As well, because these are basically free accounts that can be created by anyone, IGN/Gamespy provides no support for them outside of their automated password retrieval system.
Though we understand you’ve probably invested a lot of time into your account, we recommend creating a new Battlefield 2 account at this time. We understand this is not what you want to hear, but as I mentioned above, we have no access to change any Battlefield 2 account information. However, account security is very important to us, and making sure you take your account security seriously is a very important initiative here at Electronic Arts.
Passwording the server at all times seems to be the only protection to me. Anything else on stopping this? I don't care too much about my account but I wouldn't want anybody messing with it. I have had it for 2.5 years. (still a freakin NCO too )
Any word from Gamespy? I have an account there but there forums and tech support where not all that great. I wouldn't expect much from them with a game this old anyway.
