I hate to have to report this news, but PBBans has closed its doors.

Over the past few weeks they have been being hit by a DDOS attack on their server. Today they had another attack and the hosting company would not help them overcome the attack. They would have to move to another hosting company to solve the problem which would cost a lot of money, time, and effort.

The time and effort put in by all the staff members at PBBans has been enormous. But a year or so back, they lost one of the two main coders for the website because Evenbalance would not fix a problem with Punkbuster that allowed for bans to be spoofed. This left MaydaX to code the website and keep it running. Him, along with the founder, Rodeobob, now want to get back to their families and lives, so they are closing the doors to PBBans.

I tried to visit their site but seems to be down. This is a big blow for us gamers.

Well I don't really know what to say, but as the title says PBBans 2003 - 2009 that's it, PBBans has finished. To be honest I'm lost for words, I didn't see this coming. They'll dish out a few hundred global bans every now and then after doing their silent detections, that's logging people using x hack, but doing nothing at the time & then at a later date, after a 'maintenance update'.. mass ban people for it. Global GUID ban covers all PB enabled servers, streaming or not.

Stream to psb, rep streaming (nothing live) they don't ban for demos & their staff are all fraking idiots, psb is a business not an anti-cheat community, it's lawyers & legal action should you say the wrong thing.

Stream to gv, setup by people banned from PBBans for trying to fake logs and get innocent people banned, PBBans banned hackers on the staff list, spoofed bans on their ban list, a 3rd rate reject pro-cheat site, they can frak off.

Up crap creek without a paddle would be an understatement right now & I think allot of servers will also shut down because of this.

Right now I'm trying to get a recent pbbans.dat (ban file) because at the moment, not one server has one that's been recently updated as we used PBBans enforce bans flag which meant no need for pbbans.dat, there is one, but hardly anything in it. Basically anyone that was on the PBBans MBI before all this can join our servers and play, I should have downloaded it before this, sorry.

Frek, very sad day when I dropped in and read this today. It is a BF2 hacker's wet dream.

With GC streaming both to PsB and PBBans, I'd have to say that its a huge blow. PBBans was a great resource to see the multiple (up to several hundred banned BF2 CD keys) tied to individual players. Seriously, there were players that had over 200 banned cdkeys. Who would want to play with those circle jerks?

PsB is still good and worthy in their nitch, just not as research friendly and did not ban as many as PBBans did.

Evenbalance bans? Please... you'd have to crap on their front porch before they banned you (when they got around to it half a year later as long it was a generic crap).

With lack of Dice/EA 1.5 update security patches (for the last 2 years?) that hackers already have easily exploited, I dont see any relief coming from the coders of the actual game.

Hosting has been secured and the process of moving the servers now begins.

Moving also requires all game servers be updated to use a new UCON profile. The new UCON profile will be posted here when we get the IP.

PBBans has enough donations from pissed off honest players and admins that they will continue the fight!

Yeah it were the community pleas and the will to donate that make them going on. But as the attacks on all sites will go on and prolly steered ( botnet financing) by those that sell those hacks the community might be called for arms to fight a cyber war to hit them with their own weapons - not with botnet but personally...so let's seek their ips... and get the real live adresses from hack /cheat tool buyers and start visiting them...

Welcome back everyone; we hope you have enjoyed your time off. We have been extremely busy behind the scenes in preparing the servers and arranging for their shipment to the new host. Our servers have finished their long journey from Los Angeles and now up and running at their new home in New York City. As you can see we are online ahead of schedule thanks to the speedy install from our host and the servers arriving a day early. The PBBans Hub is online and is running smoothly. We will be updating all of our documentation to reflect the new Hub info over the next few days.

We received a great outpouring of support during our time of need and we want to express our sincerest thanks to those that donated, continue to donate and to those that offered to help. I also want to thank Art of War Central and Wolf Servers who provided a temp hosting solution for our status site.

The DDoS that was directed towards PBBans overwhelmed our previous host's network.. We were facing a dire situation. Our host failed to provide adequate protection for our servers and the DDoS stayed strong for several days. PBBans had struggled with the possibility that we would have to shut down. The key factors that we had to consider was obviously the DDoS, the very poor support that we were receiving from our host, and the amount of funds that we had on hand to facilitate moving to a new host. We have seen a couple of posts on other sites stating that this was all a PR stunt or a drive to pull cash into PBBans. I assure you that this was the furthest from the truth. In fact, if it weren't for the donations that we have received over the last week, we wouldn't be where we are today.

I want to personally thank everyone that have stuck with us, donated their time/funds, those kind words of support posted on our forums (http://www.pbbans.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=100302), and a special thanks goes out to MaydaX for all his hard work keeping PBBans running smoothly....and hanging on for another ride.

Yeah they're back again - I've been there tonight going through last 3 month BF2 Ban List...when i have a job again they'll sure get a donation by me

It seems that those botnets (and all of us) still make the PBBans server act slowly...that way you might get an error message in your browser window...
