Wait I thought this was an October 31 release date. Axe's link says December 31. Did I miss a release date change?

The perk system is absolutely brilliant! No more worrying about pubbies picking bad perks! Keeping the squad alive is a BIG benefit! Alternatively, wiping squads is a big boon for your team! Having your squad work together to unlock perks was already good but the way Lvlcap described it sounds amazing.

Did anyone notice how odd the Chinese armor looked (particularly the helmets) when he was sniping them near the end?

I'm a little late to this thread but I just want to say I'm still not entirely convinced into buying this.

Yeah they are finally putting in what was initially promised like destructibility. Although the extent of it I'm still skeptical. Yeah they showed destroying that building but they said they could do that in Frostbite 2 before BF3 came out even used that as a marketing gimmick iirc and instead we didn't even get the ability to blow holes in the ground like BC2 had let alone most buildings being destructible. Hell based on BF3 physics if you want your building to stand the test of time just put a stairway on the bottom floor against any of the walls and boom instantly puts the superstructure in god mode.

Commander mode? Should of always been in there. Absolutely no reason to have not had it in BF3.

It's becoming more and more, "Hey, you know all those things the vast majority of BF fans since 1942 expected in BF3 as well as the advancements we promised in Frostbite 2. Well it's finally here and you can have it all for an additional $60 dollars."

Unfortunately based on the Commander map I still feel they haven't learned proper map balance. look at where the US spawn is in relation to the middle point C. Now look at the side the enemy comes from, unless they spawn in the water on carriers which would be ghey, they have to spawn closer to C than US giving them a distance advantage on the central point. One could argue it's not even in open beta yet they could change it drastically but I doubt it. I'm willing to bet money that map is as done as it's going to be. If anything they'll remove destructibility under the guise of netcode efficiency or some other BS.

With how utterly bad the players are they get to show off the demo (seriously I would be a god to how these dudes were playing and I'm no where near a good player IMO) there's no way to judge the weapon balance. Which will probably be terrible again with 3 or less weapons effectively dominating the game practically all in the same class again.

Speaking of class balance. Nice to see recon have the C4 again. Gives them the ability to deal with armour if they absolutely have to as well as really come to it's own as a saboteur if they deliver their promises on destructibility. Unfortunately though it looks like they still left the Assault class with medpacks/defib and the support/LMG class with ammo... Let the Assault have their weapons that are good at pretty m uch any range but rid them of they're revive/healing abilities. Give the support that like it was in BC2. It was far more balanced IMO. The way it is now it's just going to be majority assaults using whatever unbalanced weapon they come up with this time.

Hell the game doesn't even look that much different from BF3...

That's my overly long opinion about BF4 so far.

there is nothing wrong with having some weapons dominate, it's impossible to make everything even.

There is. It makes the game stale and boring once the entire community realizes they can just use an M16 and practically dominate anyone who dares try to mix it up for the sake of variety. It's not impossible. There are multiple stats for every weapon. Manipulating those stats so that they have their pros and cons but still maintain an equal TTK is definitely doable it just takes effort from the developer.

Edit: I'm talking weapons within each class btw. Not making a sniper rifle or LMG equivalent to an Assault rifle. Also for the record I don't notice it as much in GC probably because not everyone here is a min/maxing douche. It's immediately apparent in most comp games though.

Unfortunately, it's just not practical to have hugely different weapons within the same class in a modern shooter. As opposed to a Sci Fi or fantasy setting where very different weapons can be made with different mechanics that are situational, every reality based gun has very little differences that can be changed to alter how they operate. (Namely fire rate, damage, spread, recoil and fire mode) There are special cases like the AN-94 dual shot mode, but those are rare. These leaves you with guns that will just have the best damage output at varying ranges which is what we have currently.

I guess they could deviate more from the current BF3 model where nearly every rifle of the same class has the same magazine count, same damage drop off and just alters fire rate, spread and recoil but it doesn't really lend itself to unique weapon experiences. I think most people would agree that having weapons with more variances between them is better but it's really hard to balance a system like that. I'm not trying to excuse the bland nature of the guns, but I can understand why it is the way it is. That said, we don't have enough information to make these type of judgement calls. We'll just have to wait and see once the beta/game are finally released.

Regarding the recon C4, I think that was just a bug with the hud. The player classes were switched mid way through the demo. I don't think they'd change something that integral to the classes from BF3, but I could be wrong. (Plus I don't think it makes much sense to have a recon with C4)

I agree that many of the "new" features in BF4 should have been in BF3, but I don't think we should hold that against DICE. We should encourage them to continue listening to player demands and to incorporate more changes like commander and spectator modes. Complaining about a new game coming out with features that should have been in it's predecessor doesn't make sense to me. Although I guess you could make the argument based on principle.
