Commander Mode on Unranked Servers

Not having unlocks is a very messy subject. Its not about most weapons are decently close to performance. My concern is Shock paddles, Med kits, Ammo kits, AA kits, armor/boat/heli/jet unlocks, etc that make a huge difference in play. Maybe I'm reading this subject wrong.

I have to agree with Ash here. The benefit of having a commander can not out weigh one side having an AA with active radar missiles and/or boats with TV missiles and the other side not having them.

I cant imagine that any vehicle specialist does not have all unlocks from pub play.
If those guys dont play pub at all, they will be pretty bad the first couple of battledays anyway. Not matter if they have all unlocks.

I see issues with infantry, far more unlocks since you often have to switch classes. However, for the majority of players I think it is not overly dramatic.

Also there is no reason to try both options: commander/stats unlock + no commander/all unlock


@undertow: The two options i mentioned in vars.unlockMode are not working yet (stated in the documentation). I think it will allow to enforce certain e-sport rules, like banning M320 and such things.

I'm sorry, but I'm going to be staunchly for all unlocks.

I don't see how we can tell one of our members that they can't play the position they want because they don't have time to max their unlocks in a particular class/vehicle.

Which will happen if certain players have weapons that others do not.

To me this breeds elitism and goes against what GC is about.

Hopefully they will fix it before it is a real issue.

Shrap is right, we have to look at a our low level players and not at the leaders of the competition boards to find a basis for all to play on equal terms.

Maybe during the scrim we can play the morning with commander, the evening with unlocks?

This is a shitty choice to have to make. I'd like to see how commander plays out in GC, but I can see the point about vehicle unlocks being unbalancing or preventing people from participating.

If the vehicle specialists dont have the unlocks yet, how are they supposed to know how to use them in the scrim? There are some new mechanics....The 1st scrim for people who have only played like 3h or so will be quite brutal anyway.

The only concern are infantry unlocks, as they need much more time than the vehicle unlocks.

Presumably the armies will be rotating people through tanks and boats and such, not just putting their best players in them for all 6 hours. Yes, a player with no practice time on a particular unlock is going to be worse at it than a player with more, but a player who can't even use the unlock is going to be even worse off.

Like I said, it's a crappy situation. I don't think either answer really works, that's why I suggested trying both.

I asked daskro on twitter how will the lvl tournament work with the commander mode. He said that now you can do all unlocks and commander. Don't know specifics though

Haven´t read all the comments but:

-Is there a vars. function which dictaminates that commanders switch from side after a round ends? (That´s what happen every time i use commander mode and could be annoying to switch sides afterwards)

Then don't disallow players from playing certain positions because of missing unlocks. Unless you are trying to stay super competitive, then I guess it may not be a viable option.

Most vehicles require very few points to max out and could likely be finished in a single battle day. Almost any infantry position can be filled with starting equipment. I suppose there are a few specialized positions like recon spotting that would require some time to unlock. But with how progression is done in BF4, it shouldn't take very long to unlock what you need, a few matches at most.

It would be kind of fun to team up to grind unlocks for our less experienced players. Teamwork is getting 31 of your guys to line up in a row so #32 can plow them all down for points
