Pro player balancing
Hey guys, so I had some plans for balancing out pro-players for the 21CW campaign. Since we're having problems with it at the moment, thought I'd bring it up. One of the problems for example is tK, as most of you know they like to play together. A lot of pro-groups like to play together and that brings us to the current dilemma: balancing.
I would like to propose that groups of more than 3 pro players, (pro being by definition either highly skilled and playing in the same clan or being competing in a professional league) be considered neutral, unless a similar group can be balanced against them or they accept splitting up.
What this means is that said squad will switch teams every battleday. For example tK squad would play one week for SAD, one week for TCF. This balances out the long term whilst allowing them to remain as a group.
Counterpoints:
Why should they be allowed when regular players are not allowed to pick who they play with?
As far as I know, requests to play with other people are honored as much as possible so this is not technically true. Also in their case it's not just friendship, they are actually groups.
Won't they just not care about the campaign and do what they want?
Maybe, maybe not. There are also individuals that do this. I don't see how handling it would be different.
Anyway, I'm in the current process of reaching out to some comp players so this never gets called upon but I think it might be some food for thought.

yeah, some kinds of mercenary status has been discussed occasionally. to various degrees.
not participating at all in the army forums kinda sucks, though. Oh wait...there is a forum?

Fine by me.
The optimal, although unreachable, solution would simply be to actually have full servers. If there's actually enough people you can put your foot down on a ruling and simply have people refusing to adhere not play and have others take their place.
The only reason this is even an issue is because of low numbers, which means accomodating and catering to everyone with the slightest interest has to be done in the interest of not playing 2v2.
I don't see a better solution

Re: Pro player balancing
The only people I've seen putting up a good fight against tK during a battle day are LoB when they joined a campaign, then, for some reason unknown to me, some stayed at GC and some went to LvL and 21CW.
If there are two competetive squads on each team there usually is balance, but that means they have to show for every battle day.
The other problem is that tK don't play the first half of the battle day, if it's because of high ping on the server or to early during the day, I don't know.

Re: Pro player balancing
My only concern with the mercenary idea is determining where each little mercenary squad is meant to go. If it is left up to the HC's then you're going to spend a lot of time arguing over balance. That would leave the TA's, who in my experience, rarely seem to understand the current balance concerns of both sides. And then there's the issue of size differences, since rarely are these clans composed of the same number of people. Also, from a campaign standpoint, winning might feel a little strange if victory is achieved while half your army comes from a neutral party who fought for the other side periodically.
Re: Pro player balancing
Mercenaries? wat?
This is mostly a proposal for when a squad gets left unbalanced. If there's three pro player squads then at least 2 can get assigned, and one will remain neutral.
Recapping, this is only for situations where one squad remains unbalanced, and they are more than 3.
As to belonging to an army ... well that's the price to pay if you want to be in the squad you know, I dont think its unfair.

At most it would be 5 people.CognitoCon wrote:while half your army comes from a neutral party
This is true, but say you have 3 and 5. 2 Pro player difference won't have near as much impact as a 5 non balanced, I think.CognitoCon wrote:And then there's the issue of size differences, since rarely are these clans composed of the same number of people.

LevelBF starts at the same time and ends when GC has the break and that's where most of these competitive players play. The other problem is that tK don't play the first half of the battle day, if it's because of high ping on the server or to early during the day, I don't know.
Re: Pro player balancing
As far as infantry is concerned I'm not sure that "pro" players are such a detrimental factor of imbalance. While they pack a big punch their impact is pretty localized. I think It gets more problematic with vehicle guys. Since vehicle assets are much more limited the impact of a loss is considerably more significant.
Also, what if they don't want to be neutral?

I have no opinion on this matter, i just wanted to let you guys know
