Minimap

Post by Daywrecker »

If you guys can remember before one of the first few patches for BF2 the Minimap zoom was universal no matter what vehicle you were in. With one of the patches they changed it so you can have different zoom levels depending which vehicle you where in. I freaking hate that. I always want my minimap zoomed out as far as it can. Anyone know if there's a way to change it so it's back like the old version? A config file maybe in the My Documents? And for anyone that hated having to use the F keys for the vehicle positions and wants to use the number keys like 1942 you can change the controls in your profile config folder in My Documents. Look for the lines ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_PIPositionSelect1 IDFKeyboard IDKey_F1 10000 0 and change "F1" to "1". I've done this since BF2 came out and had no conflict issues. The only problem is vehicles like the black hawk, to sit in position 4 you have to change to weapon 4. Unless it's full and your stuck in a position you can use any weapon. Just thought i'd throw that out there if anyone didn't know that. I couldn't get used to using the F keys, to far to reach to switch positions fast.

I know, and that's what the problem is.

I will have to check mine, but my complaint is ... while in a vehicle or on foot if I set my map to 1st or 2nd zoom and then look at squads with Tab key or is it Caps Lock (I think this is the one that screws the zoom) then the zoom is reset to completely zoomed out and I have to rezoom again.

Havent really noticed, but I usually play with the main map up which hides the mini-map.

Really? Doesn't it get in your way?

There is an option to reduce the opacity of the mini map, if you put this on full(or low, whatever it is) you only see the icons of soldiers/tanks/planes/spotted/etc. and not the terrain.

Exactly. Put it on full (or lowest) and you'll see more of whats going on.

For me it does, but the trade off is toggling the main map up or looking through the map which still has a frame, blue, green, red dots and flags to see your view.
It can help when moving/firing across a map fast because you can see things on map before they become visual.
After learning the maps and the terrain on the maps, setting the map to transparent is not too much of an issue and you can still get the terrain features when the squad/map screen is pulled up (just no zoom in that mode).
