so yeah just signed up, just wanted to know how long does it take for me to be assigned to a army and start playing?

You should be assigned in a day or two (at most) and you can join in the fun next black ops battleday (Tuesday).

it will speed up matters if you connect to

You don't get a mail, you just log in one day and see you've been assigned. Your name will be black for DARK or blue for PRIDe.
