The First Strike mod is going to be pushing out it's latest release on Xmas Eve. I'll be playing with a group of friends on the following Saturday (next week, the 28th!) with a group of friends, and invite everyone else to join me. I reccomend getting the game + mod downloaded/installed before this day. I'll be around teamspeak most of the time to help with any tech issues. You have a 90% chance of experiencing some form of technical problem so PLEASE get it working beforehand if you want to play. I'm also willing to hop on for a bit if I can to quickly tutor you on the game if available. Don't wait until the day because I'll be busy keeping a server working and playing the game.

Ok, I never got 2142 but if I've played BF1942, Vietnam and BF2, then I should be ok I guess?

You'll be OK for 2142 vanilla. FS may be a bit different, but the core mechanics are for the most part the same. ANything that's different is noted somewhere in that previous thread. 2142 is a decent price on Origin I believe.

Cancelling this. FS 1.6 was delayed, I'll bump/make a new thread once it's out to organise an event then.

Doing the event this weekend. The patches the FS team have on their front page don't quite work. Grab all your BF2142 and FS patches here. Please note if you are running the ORIGIN version of the game, you only have to download First Strike. You also have to launch the game once (it'll crash), then go to your BF2142 installation folder, find firststrike.exe, delete/rename it and make a copy of your 2142.exe and rename it firststrike.exe.

please note:

there is a bug with the launcher currently where updating the game deletes everything in the bf2142\mods folder, which makes the game not only unplayable but unlaunchable. if you've already updated and haven't tried to play yet, check that folder. if all you see are 2 folders (firststrike and fs_1021 or similar), and no bf2142 folder, you're gonna have to reinstall 2142 and update differently. sorting it with gwynzer, will get a guide to update safely shortly.

getting it to work (assuming you're either reinstalling because the files got screwed or fresh install):

1. install 2142
2. install the 1.5 version of the mod (found here)
3. when it asks you to accept the licence agreement for the 1.5 launcher, cancel and don't bother using it
4. download the new FS launcher from here
5. run that launcher and update the game from there
6. launch the game after the update finishes

if, after you launch the game, you see the star wars themed log in screen, you should be ok from this point. If you see standard 2142 stuff, it hasn't worked.

here's a video by the FS team about it. Note you can skip the parts about manually installing the 1.5 and 1.51 BF2142 patches if you got the game through origin, not an old disk install. Also using this install method, you don't have to do the old trick of swapping the FirstStrike.exe files in the BF2142 folder, it should just launch.


edit: if, after following the video or using the above, you are still having issues, feel free to poke me on TS tomorrow/saturday morning. I should be awake/available after 1:00 PM EST tomorrow or around 8:00 AM EST saturday morning.

To bad FS refuses to work for me, however I spend playing 2142 titan mode instead for a couple of hours and forgot all about BF 4
I'll try to be there next time.

Note:
I've installed the 2142 Deluxe edition disk version because my standard disk version is to scratched/damaged to be read.
Perhaps the 2142 Deluxe version is the the problem ?
