I spent a couple of years on Okinawa so I got hooked on Anime there – had only a few English channels. Good way to learn Japanese and entertaining. There are hundreds of good amine – here are some links that might help.

http://animetoplist.org/watch/anime/list

http://www.anime-planet.com/tags/

The first will give you a good way to find sites – in English
The second is a good site to search for what you want – in English

I would like clarification on what you mean in term of the anime being "designed for adults." Is it in terms of theme or story? What elements would make it classified as "designed for adults"? It might make it easier for me to name some suggestions.
characters being killed, facing moral conflicts, and making rational decisions.

the fact is i got tired from Hollywood movies. they have more effects and less logical outcome.
last 3 movies i've seen last week just made me feel i wasted time from my life for nothing. it was Wrath of the Titans, Snow White and the Huntsman, and last James Bond: skyfall. all had a turning point based on a completely irrational decision of one of the characters. i was thinking to myself "WTFuck?! why the hell would you do that? i would NEVER EVER do that!". they just can't write a script that logically connect their story to their "good ending".
Thanks for the clarification. Out of the ones I put up, I feel Psycho-Pass fits the most with your description. However, it hasn't ended yet and still has like 10 episodes left?
Code Geass and Fate/Zero I think still fit the description, but I could be wrong about it.
While Steins;Gate was good, I don't think it really fits the "adult" description you're looking for.

Perhaps you would like to look on Wikipedia for summaries to see if they perk your interest?

Don't spoil yourselef by reading the wki summaries! I personally find it enjoyable to jump into something while knowing nothing about it.

First off I think that everyone who watches anime should watch GINTAMA it is hilarious, random and has some very intense action sequences.

I see a lot of people are saying Code Geass and I fully agree!

Based on your examples my recommendations to you are:
Durarara
Sword Art Online
Ao no Exorcist
Soul Eater
Darker than Black
Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann
Bounen no Xamdou
Tiger & Bunny
No.6
K
The Soul of Money and the Possibility of Control

Current and on-going (which can be a pain in the posterior)
Btooom!
Psycho-pass

I hope some of those hit the spot,
Enjoy =3

Btw, wwww.anime-planet.com can be quite helpful when it comes to more recommendations!

i wouldn't want to read the description, since it spoils everything, and besides, you can't tell if its good or not from the wiki description, everything reads good on the wiki.
you really have to see the series to decide if its any good.

i saw Syndicate, and it doesn't to what im looking for.
FMA ("original" - 2003 release) also doesn't fit, it has a stupid ending.

i hope you guys aren't just listing your favorites but also filter out stuff based on what im looking for.

To somewhat fit what you're looking for I would say:
(links have Synopsis with no spoilers, usually)

Beserk
Monster
Serial Experiment Lain

Those are more late teen - adult

I would just recommend these ones regardless
Planetes
Phantom
Hajime no Ippo
Ergo Proxy
Tokyo Magnitude 8.0

I wasn't a fan of the original. FMA Brotherhood is leagues better.

Psycho-Pass just ended. It definitely did not disappoint, and I feel was the best show I watched these past two seasons. Very psychological and philosophical. Antagonist is unique, which is a bonus. There were a lot of cliff hangers , though I felt that they were well done and kept me hooked. Couldn't wait for the next episode each week. It's 22 episodes, so in my opinion, it's not too short and not too long. The ending wasn't as impactful or as awesome as I anticipated it would be, but nevertheless, the ending was reasonable and sensible and ended on a solid note.

Psycho pass was indeed one of the best animes i have seen so far. Magi is a good one to watch its ongoing atm. Myself likes to watch hunter x hunter its a anime kind off like one piece or naruto but its build up way beter then those. Also one of my favs is Samurai Champloo and steins gate ofcourse. Further more i pretty lost count of how many i saw and they arent always as good as those that are really know such as i named before. I didnt like Sword Art Online first season was oke second one i didnt know what i was watching anymore it didnt make any sence. There are also sometimes you see animes and you can almost predict that there is some issue behind the scenes for example not enough money.. This seemed to me with ao no exorcist if you have watched it. It's is this decent but its like they just finished the anime really quick and rough. Anyway if anywant want to know more just ask.

yeah i have two questions:
1) why are you quoting yourself?
2) Naruto is 220 episodes with little to no plot (Pokemon also has a plot of being the greatest pokemon trainer or whatever), that doesn't fit to my criteria.
