well, as some of you know, I cannot install SF as it crashes at the splash screen. Now when I go to add/remove programs, there is a program called Battlefield 2: Special Forces that is over 7 gigs!!! wtf is this bs the game isn't even installed and yet I have a program called battlefield 2 special forces that is over 7 gigs
please anyone know what the crap this is?
edit: oh, and I can't remove it cause that splash screen splashes too
edit, off topic: also, if I uninstall bf2 and reinstall it, will I have to reinstall and repatch poe2 and all the mods?

I don't know the answer to the first question...maybe a registry error.
The answer to this question though is yes.

actually, you can cut/copy the POE files into a backup directory for safe keeping. Then uninstall/reinstall and patch BF2 to 1.41 and move the POE directory back, and it will work. However, if you try to use installers based on POE they may not be working perfectly if a registry setting went away (but you can manually add those again later on)

Mastif. Go into your regedit (Start -> Run -> regedit), and export a backup in case this goes wrong.
Go into HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE -> DICE and delete the Battlefield 2: Special Forces folder.
Next, still in SOFTWARE goto Electronic Arts -> EA Games and delete the Battlefield 2: Special Forces folder.
Try re-installing Battlefield 2: Special Forces now.

There could still be more under that Electronic Arts folder, tree it out and clear special forces under EA Core (think it comes from EA Link downloader whether or not you downloaded SF).
There also will be another under the uninstall registry entry. You can search the registry for "special forces".
Clear out your install directory on your C drive also.

I got the one under EA core, never looked there before. I also searched it and in the uninstall directory I got about 20 hits. which ones should I delete?
edit: should I delete the REG_DWORD or the REG_SZ things?

No probs. Bloody reg errors can be a nightmare. I didn't know of the uninstall one. Well spotted.

Matsif, you're showing PB integrity issues from Dec 06 thru May 07. From what I've been seeing this is a hard drive or memory corruption issue (hopefully). At which point a complete wipe and re-install is in order. Since the flag is PB only, you could wipe PB directory and run 2 exectutables.
