^ or a blue if you want to save some money and they're more than $5-10 cheaper at the time/place of purchase.

Green is slow. It might be enough though, depending on what program you're using to record and what resolution/quality.

Seagate bought Samsung's HDD division, Spinpoint F3s are now just Barracudas

how is one 7200rpm 64mb cache hdd different from another? sry, but I don't get how that's supposed to be a real difference. Also, what write speeds are we talking about here?

Pretty much any modern sata drive should work fine. I use a USB 2.0 external drive, and it's never had any problems.

Toms Hardware has a series of benchmarks on hard drives for 2012. One of their benchmarks covers sequential write speeds, the sort of thing recording footage would be heavily dependent on.

http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/hdd- ... ,2904.html

According to their data, the Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 series drives offer tremendous performance/dollar. Seagate has had a bad reputation in the past for defective hard drives but I trust that they've been able to address it in the past five or so years since the incident.

Name: Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 1TB
Model Number: ST1000DM003
Web page: http://www.seagate.com/internal-hard-dr ... T1000DM003

I agree with Fields. My 2.5" external hard drive was able to record BF3 footage at 30FPS 720p using Dxtory's YUV410 settings without problems. After I hooked it up via USB3, I was even able to record in raw RGB. If you want to record an entire battleday's worth of footage (~300 minutes), you're going to run into space problems long before you run into write speed problems.

Different platter sizes/densities, different read/write heads and controllers, etc.
My newish blue gets about 150 MB/s sequential read/write
My older green gets about 80 MB/s (newer ones should be a little bit faster though)

Get the one with the best price. It won't matter if its 5400, 5900 or 7200rpm for what you are gonna do.
I would probably get one of the "low power" discs cause they usually are more quiet and produce less heat inside your case.

ok so i've come down to

WD1002FAEX-126MB/s(Sustained transfer rate) - 5 year warranty - 83.50 €
ST1000DM003 -210MB/s(Sustained transfer rate) - 2 year warranty - 65.70 €
HGST 0A39289 - 134MB/s(Sustained transfer rate) - 5 year warranty (enterprise model) - 82.25 €

im leaning towards the hitachi one tbh.

e: ordered the seagate
