ran into the same issue, was rather disappointed with this summer's sale. Nothing of major interest that I hadn't picked up on sale previously or owned in some other fashion.

Anyways, today's the last day of the sale, so the most bought things are up again. Good pickups (imo):
-witcher 2: $3.99 - vastly better than witcher 1 as far as playability and graphics and such. Great single player RPG.
-planetary annihilation: $16.99 - good RTS with a new single player "galactic war" mode. early access game with a lot of things still being added.
-assassin's creed 4: $19.99 - best AC game by far imo. The open world portion is done so well they could remove the whole AC story and lore from the game and it would still be excellent.
-Payday 2: $5.99 + cheap DLCs - I've been extremely hesitant to get this for quite some time, but I picked it up and have been having an absolute blast with it. great co-op game.
-goat simulator: $5.99 - wait wat?
-garry's mod: $2.49 - enjoy building things with stuff in steam games? grab it. plenty of fun things you can do if you're creative, like make cannons and catapults and forts and jetcars and [the list goes on]
-Dragon Age: Origins: $7.49 - complete edition with all DLCs. IMO this is still Bioware's greatest title, easily beating mass effect as far as each single release (although I think the ME games as a trilogy are better).
-Deus Ex: Human Revolution: $9.99 - director's cut version with better boss fights and all DLC. Not as good as original Deus Ex but a great RPGFTS hybrid with a good story.
-Portal 2: $4.99 - wonderful first person puzzle game if you've never played it, with great dialogue. There's also a co-op mode as well. Collection with portal 1 is $6.24 if you want the whole story.
-Postal 2: $2.99 - just ridiculousness made into video game form.
-insurgency $8.99 - great tactical FTS. Has hardcore feel to it.

Yay more coh2 players :D
You can find me in the European evenings usually in the coh2 TS and chuko idling all day long.
Western fronts is a good standalone expansion if you want to get into coh2!

I've been playing it with a group of friends I know. Actually pretty fun if you have full 5 players you know. It's a twitch FPS so nothing like BF. All I've played is competitive matches (win 10 and you get ranked) which is apparently better than rec matches where any player skill group can be matched against you.

You have only the guns you start out with but can get different skins and stuff for them. Helps in balancing I would say because no matter what rank you are, you have the same guns.

The game is suitable for both types of players:casual and competitive.BUT,there is one huge issue with the competitive mode and it's there are many CHEATERS.Most of you may say, that I don't know how to play and I'm just raging, but this isn't only my opinion. One of the reasons is that the game is cheap,so you can buy many accounts and experiment. However, the game is tons of fun playing with friends or friendly teammates  !

Rising Storm is on sale on Humble right now for 4,50€: https://www.humblebundle.com/store

I'm not 100% sure you'll be able to play RO2 maps as well, but I think this is the same deal that was on Steam a while ago, so it should work.

Sale is only up for about 3 more hours, so you'll have to be quick about it, but the game is absolutely worth it IMO.

You will be able to play RO2 maps just not level up the guns and only play as rifleman.
