I was planning on grabbing it. I'm looking forward to seeing what they did to the controls and the underwater stuff.

Looks interesting, but what is exactly the objective if you play multiplayer.
Re: [ArmA III] Available March 5th
Can't speak for ARMA3, but I can say what they did in ARMA2. I imagine they'll carry it on.
The basic game modes are the likes of TDM etc, like any other shooter, though I've not seen many people play that. You can also play a large amount of "Scenarios", some are within the game but many are custom made and all you have to do is join the server. The scenarios task a group of humans (sometimes with AI Squaddies) against a group of AI soldiers and the humans have to complete certain objectives. Often in this mode, dead is dead.
The main mode I've played in ARMA2 is "Capture The Island", which is a bit of a mix between an RTS and battlefield. In CTI you you have "commander" who is responsible for building up a base somewhere on the map (which is huge) and telling people where to go. The buildings will allow you to buy weapons/gear for your character, different vehicles (from quad bikes to attack helicopters), or AI Squaddies to order about (who can be very handy in combat, and some have special abilities like healing). Money is gained by capturing and holding the various towns within the map, and for battle performance. It can get very interesting as some servers run with 3 different teams. There are other "Vanilla" modes but I've not tried them.
The game is also very moddable on the serverside. Server hosters can make a HUGE amount of changes to their server, and the client doesn't have to do download outside of the game, an autodownload of the mission file will start when you join the server, the largest one I've ever seen has been about 6 megs or so. Popular servermods are Wasteland (Sort of like DayZ with basebuilding and no zombies. Not as good) and Zargabad Life.
The game engine itself is fairly moddable, as the very popular DayZ mod shows. There also some other mods, such as ArmaII Project Reality, which pretty much brings the BF2 PR game modes to the ARMA Engine. There are also various mods which exist to "enhance" the "realism" of the game, such as ACE etc, but I've not really tried them
I imagine ARMA3 will include all the game modes of ARMA2 on launch, I can't speak for the Alpha though.

I really like the idea of putting Greek tanks instead T-90s or Abrams .And the camouflage is awesome!
